About
TfL is the largest transport services
company in Europe, responsible for transportation related projects in 33 boroughs
across London. We worked with them to optimise the performance of their processes
for managing the complex processes for installation of traffic lights across London.
Objectives
The installation of
traffic lights was managed through a manual, paper based system that provided limited
visibility, an inability to access information quickly and sub-optimal allocation
of resources. Effective communication between the complex network of organisations
and people involved was also extremely difficult. To improve the situation, a project
was initiated to automate the entire process to improve information flow, asset
utilisation, service delivery and communication. |
Solution
Network Technologies (now AuraQ)
developed "SchemeWorks" - a process and software solution built on the Metastorm
Business Process Management platform. SchemeWorks manages all work through an online,
web-based dashboard that allows employees to manage projects, action work items,
and report on the status of any scheme. The dashboard is also role based so that
an employee only sees the items that are relevant to their role. This makes SchemeWorks
easy to use which drives rapid improvements in efficiency and productivity. Some
access to SchemeWorks will also be possible by the public though a standard web
browser, where the status of any open schemes can be seen. This access and visibility
will significantly improve the flow of information. |
 |
TfL also plans to integrate internal
software applications such as SAP Financials, Cyclops and Primavera for project
management and resource utilisation. This will drive even greater efficiencies and
productivity, and make optimum use of I.T. and physical assets.
Results
Moving from a manual to an automated system brings many benefits such as improved
efficiency and productivity, better decision making and a far higher level of service.
TfL also anticipates significant cost reduction, improved asset utilisation, faster
completion of projects and better communication with its communities and the London
boroughs. |
